WELCOME TO HOPE

It is our mission to extend the welcome of Jesus, and we hope that is what you experience. We also think it might be helpful to share a few things about this booklet you are holding.

It contains a liturgy.

A liturgy is a handcrafted order of worship. Like an artisan, we aim to collect all the varied pieces of gathered worship, and then place them together in the most beautiful and purposeful way possible: a way that honors you as a participant who engages with God and not a mere consumer, and a way that is relevant to our cultural moment but honors the historic and global church.

It is beautiful.

Members of hope create the cover art, the leaders of hope craft the content, and our connect card is a way to initiate relationship, the most beautiful part of hope.

Beloved, let us give thanks to God the Father, through his Son, in the Holy Spirit, because in his great love for us he took pity on us, “and when we were dead in our sins he brought us to life with Christ,” so that in him we might be a new creation. Draw us into your love Lord Jesus, and deliver us from fear.

Merciful Father, we are too quick to trust the wisdom of this world. We direct our attention to what brings immediate gratification, rather than what is true, good, and beautiful. We too easily seek power and knowledge that directs our gaze away from Jesus Christ and him crucified. We look out for our own interest, and do not depend on the power that only comes from the Holy Spirit. Give us the mind of Christ, that we might have eyes to see with wonder what you have prepared for those who love you. Amen.

A Life of Invitation: Biblical Meditation

1 How happy is the one who does not walk in the advice of the wicked or stand in the pathway with sinners or sit in the company of mockers! 2 Instead, his delight is in the LORD’s instruction, and he meditates on it day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted beside flowing streams that bears its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

4 The wicked are not like this; instead, they are like chaff that the wind blows away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand up in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to ruin. We confess that this Word of God was not sent nor delivered “by human will,” but that “men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God,” as Peter says. Afterward our God—with special care for us and our salvation—commanded his servants, the prophets and apostles, to commit this revealed Word to writing. God, with his own finger, wrote the two tables of the law. Therefore we call such writings holy and divine Scriptures.
