WELCOME TO HOPE
It is our mission to extend the welcome of Jesus, and we hope that is what you experience. We also think it might be helpful to share a few things about this booklet you are holding.
It contains a liturgy.
A liturgy is a handcrafted order of worship. Like an artisan, we aim to collect all the varied pieces of gathered worship, and then place them together in the most beautiful and purposeful way possible: a way that honors you as a participant who engages with God and not a mere consumer, and a way that is relevant to our cultural moment but honors the historic and global church.
It is beautiful.
Members of hope create the cover art, the leaders of hope craft the content, and our connect card is a way to initiate relationship, the most beautiful part of hope.

REFLECTION
Christopher Wright, Exodus
"For Israel, the momentous events of their redemption from Egypt and their meeting with God at Sinai were steps on the great journey that began with their election in Abraham. Their election was purposeful, for the sake of God’s long-term mission of restoring blessing to all nations and the whole earth. That is the story they were in."
CALL TO WORSHIP
Psalm 131:1-2
ALL
Lord, my heart is not proud; my eyes are not haughty. I don’t concern myself with matters too great or too awesome for me to grasp. Instead, I have calmed and quieted myself, like a weaned child who no longer cries for its mother’s milk. Yes, like a weaned child is my soul within me.
DOXOLOGY
Lyrics: Thomas Ken, 1674
Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Amen.
PRAYER OF INVOCATION

HYMNS
Holy Holy Holy
Public Domain
Holy, holy, holy!
Lord God, almighty
Early in the morning
Our song shall rise to Thee
Holy, holy, holy!
Merciful and mighty
God in three persons
Blessed Trinity
Holy, holy, holy!
All the saints adore Thee
Casting down their golden crowns
Around the glassy sea
Cherubim and seraphim
Falling down before Thee
Who wert and art
And evermore shall be
Holy, holy, holy!
Though the darkness hide Thee
Though the eye of sinful man
Thy glory may not see
Only Thou art holy
There is none beside Thee
Perfect in power, in love, and purity
Holy, holy, holy!
Lord God, almighty
All Thy works shall praise Thy name
In earth, and sky, and sea
Holy, holy, holy!
Merciful and mighty
God in three persons
Blessed Trinity
Abide With Me
By: Henry Francis Lyte, William Henry Monk
Abide with me
Falls the eventide
The darkness deepens
Lord with me abide
When other helpers
Fail and comforts flee
Help of the helpless
Abide with me
Thou on my head
In early youth didst smile
And though rebellious
And perverse meanwhile
Thou hast not left me
Oft as I left Thee
On to the close Lord
Abide with me
I need Thy presence
Every passing hour
What but Thy grace
Can foil the tempter’s power?
Who, like Thyself
My guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine
Abide with me
I fear no foe
With Thee at hand to bless
Ills have no weight
Tears lose their bitterness
Where is thy sting death?
Where grave thy victory?
I triumph still
Abide with me
Hold Thou Thy cross
Before my closing eyes
Shine through the gloom
And point me to the skies
Heaven’s morning breaks
And earth’s vain shadows flee
In life, in death, Lord
Abide with me

CONFESSION OF SIN
Luke 18:10-14
LEADER
“Two men went up to the Temple to pray, one a Pharisee, the other a tax man. The Pharisee posed and prayed like this: ‘Oh, God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, crooks, adulterers, or, heaven forbid, like this tax man. I fast twice a week and tithe on all my income.’ Meanwhile the tax man, slumped in the shadows, his face in his hands, not daring to look up, said:
ALL
‘God, give mercy. Forgive me, a sinner.’”
GRACE ASSURANCE
Luke 18:4
LEADER
I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Slide 1
2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you,

Slide 2
3 Then Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain and said, “This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: 4 ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. 5 Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, 6 you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.” (Exodus 19:1–6)
Slide 3
“God is saying to Israel as a whole community, “You will be for me to all the rest of the nations what your priests are to you. Through you I will make myself known to the world, and ultimately through you I will draw the world into covenant relationship with myself.” (Christopher Wright)
Slide 4
“He gave me the priestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:16)
Slide 5

PROFESSION OF FAITH
New City Catechism 48
LEADER
What is the church?
ALL
God chooses and preserves for himself a community elected for eternal life and united by faith, who love, follow, learn from, and worship God together. God sends out this community to proclaim the gospel and prefigure Christ’s kingdom by the quality of their life together and their love for one another.
THE LORD’S SUPPER
1 Corinthians 11:23–26
The Lord Jesus, on the night when he was betrayed took bread and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body which is broken for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me."
HYMNS
Be Still My Soul
CCLI Song # 96910 CCLI License # 20115471
Be still my soul the Lord is on thy side
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain
Leave to thy God to order and provide
In ev’ry change He faithful will remain
Be still my soul thy best thy heav’nly Friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end
Be still my soul thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as He has the past
Thy hope thy confidence let nothing shake
All now mysterious shall be bright at last
Be still my soul the waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below
Be still my soul when dearest friends depart
And all is darkened in the vale of tears
Then shalt thou better know His love His heart
Who comes to soothe thy sorrow and thy fears
Be still my soul thy Jesus can repay
From His own fullness all He takes away
Be still my soul the hour is hast'ning on
When we shall be forever with the Lord
When disappointment grief and fear are gone
Sorrow forgot love's purest joys restored
Be still my soul when change and tears are past
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last
Be still my soul begin the song of praise
On earth believing to thy Lord on high
Acknowledge Him in all thy words and ways
So shall He view thee with a well-pleased eye
Be still my soul the Sun of life divine
Through passing clouds shall but more brightly shine
On Jordan’s Stormy Banks
CCLI Song # 3251573 Christopher Miner | Samuel Stennett
On Jordan’s stormy banks I stand
And cast a wishful eye
To Canaan’s fair and happy land
Where my possessions lie
All o’er those wide extended plains
Shines one eternal day
There God the Son forever reigns
And scatters night away
I am bound (I am bound)
I am bound (I am bound)
I am bound for the promised land
I am bound (I am bound)
I am bound (I am bound)
I am bound for the promised land
No chilling winds nor poisonous breath
Can reach that healthful shore
Sickness sorrow pain and death
Are felt and feared no more
I am bound (I am bound)
I am bound (I am bound)
I am bound for the promised land
I am bound (I am bound) I am bound (I am bound)
I am bound for the promised land
When shall I reach that happy place
And be forever blessed?
When shall I see my Father’s face
And in His bosom rest?
I am bound I am bound I am bound
I am bound I am bound I am bound
