The Empty Tomb & Real Change
Series: A New Song: Practicing Resurrection Passage: Colossians 3:1–4
When we are desperate for change, we can so quickly run to "religion" (i.e. our human efforts at reaching the divine and/or changing our unwanted behavior). It gives us an illusion of control. And in some cases, when our religion is especially severe and hard to pull off, it provides a satisfying sense of accomplishment, not to mention a load of attention and praise from others. But it does not provide the lasting change we crave.
The letter to the Colossians tells us that Jesus followers are not immune to this tendency. We can turn our faith into a human religion. But this week, Paul will tell us that we already have all we need for change in the resurrection of Jesus. This week we are going to explore the simple and surprising pathway to real change.
